| 2006 Colson Canyon Syrah |
| Congratulations to Joey and Jennifer Tensley, whose 2006 Colson Canyon Syrah is Food and Wine's "Best American Syrah Over $20"! Selected by a group of America's best sommelliers and the editors at Food & Wine, this puts Tensley along side some of the elite names in American wine. Other winners include 2005 Dominus, 2005 Shafer Merlot, and the 2004 Harlan, which can be yours for $600, according to the Food & Wine web site. What is Colson Canyon? Located at 1500 feet of elevation in a steep canyon with limestone soils in the hills north east of Santa Maria. The vines produce low yields from small clusters of tiny berries. The vineyard is located above the fog line and does not receive early morning sun, but it bakes in the afternoon. The limestone rich soil gives it a particular minerality that Joey finds unusual for California Syrahs. This is the only wine in the lineup that sees any new oak (20%). See the lineup of "America's Best" here: http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/american-wine-awards-2008-best-wines-for-over-20 As of mid September, Candid Wines has a decent stock of 2006 Colson Canyon, as well a selection of other wines from Tensley.
